PERMANENT PAEDIATRIC REGISTRAR AND SHO POSITIONS FOR THE 2025-2026 RMO YEAR

  • Allocations available in Wellington Regional and Hutt Valley Hospitals
  • Run descriptions available when allocations are confirmed
  • We are looking for Resident Medical Officers seeking Paediatric Registrar and SHO positions within the Wellington region. These positions are fully accredited for Paediatric Basic and Advanced Training for FRACP, and successful applicants are encouraged to register as Basic Trainees with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
  • The Wellington Region RMO positions are rotational across multiple hospitals, including Wellington Regional, Kenepuru and Hutt Valley Hospitals which means that you may rotate to these sites during your time with us. If you are successful in gaining a position, the service will do their best to accommodate the run preferences stated within your cover letter.
  • RMO salaries are calculated based on relevant previous years of experience and the average weekly hours of work as set out in the relevant run description. For the current salary bands, please refer to either the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (SToNZ) or Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) Single-Employer Collective Agreements.

    We also ensure that formal and informal teaching sessions are available to all of our RMO’s
    Join our fellow 615+ Resident Medical Officers employed by the 3 Areas of the Wellington Region (Capital & Coast, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa Districts) to gain leading experience, medical supervision and training.
    Wellington Regional and Kenepuru Hospitals
    Full-time Positions (rotating six-monthly) are available in General Paediatrics and in Paediatric Sub-specialities: Neonatology, Paediatric Oncology / Endocrinology, Child Psychiatry, Child Development. There is also an opportunity for advanced trainees to complete a Community Paediatrics rotation based at the Ministry of Health. There are two Reliever Registrar rotations.
    Wellington Children’s Hospital provides general paediatric care for children in Wellington, Porirua and the Kāpiti Coast and also provides regional tertiary paediatric surgery, paediatric oncology, developmental paediatrics, and child psychiatry. The Neonatal ICU provides Level 3 care for a regional population of over one million
    Hutt Valley Hospital
    Provides general paediatric care and Level 2 neonatal care for children in the Hutt Valley and community. Hutt Hospital Child Health also provides paediatric rheumatology, diabetes, and adolescent medicine services.
    The local Director of Paediatric Physician Training organises a full lecture program for Basic Trainees with 2 to 3 hours protected time per week. The Child Health Service also provides regular tutorials, Journal Club and Grand Rounds.

Together the Hutt Valley and Wellington Paediatric services offer:

  • The ability to rotate between a ‘tertiary’ and ‘regional’ hospitals

  • A variety of runs e.g. endocrinology, general paediatrics, MOH, developmental etc.

Moū – About you

For SHO positions, suitable for Resident Medical Officers who will be PGY3/F3 or above by the role commencement date

  • For Reg positions, suitable for Resident Medical Officers who will be PGY4/F4 or above by the role commencement date. Candidates must have at least 12 months previous experience working within Paediatrics. Some prior Level 3 NICU experience is desirable
  • We also welcome applications from Emergency Medicine trainees with at least one year of experience at Registrar level who wish to gain further clinical experience in general paediatrics
  • You will need to be a NZ or Australian citizen or resident, or have an appropriate visa to be eligible to live and work in NZ - information available on the Immigration New Zealand website.
