Description:
We are recruiting for a full time, fixed term Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic Fellow to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic department. This is an opportunity for a trainee to gain experience in all aspects of this subspecialty and to be involved in ongoing audit and research projects.
This post will run from September 2024 to March 2025 with the option to extend to September 2025 by mutual agreement.
The Fellow will work with Mr. Davies and Mr Elkhouly as well as Nurse Consultant Angie Lee. The team is completed by clinical nurse specialists Nina Baker and Sarah Perris
The successful candidate will have a wide exposure to high volume paediatric trauma with regular general trauma lists and specialist trauma lists every other week. There are 2 complex paediatric orthopaedic lists a month, where we operate on hip dysplasia, SUFE, osteotomy and limb deformity as well as complex foot reconstruction.
There are other paediatric elective lists running every week. As part of the Fellowship there will be exposure to ring fixators for trauma and deformity correction. It is envisaged that at the end of the Fellowship he/she will be capable of managing acute and elective paediatric orthopaedic treatment.
Other sub-specialist trauma and elective lists may be available depending on the candidate’s interests. The successful candidate will also participate in generic departmental activities including fracture clinic, day-time referrals and cross-covering.
The role is essential to providing support and guidance to junior members of the surgical team and plays a leadership role in reviewing and improving patient pathways both for inpatients and for patients attending clinic.
