Job Description 1
The fast-changing nature of online CSAE (Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation) is seeing an increase in online CSAE referrals. Unfortunately, these offences often deliberately target the most vulnerable members of society. It is therefore key that the Constabulary responds to this crime trend with talented and driven investigators. This is the role taken on by the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT).
The team’s main focus is on investigating, identifying, pursuing and disrupting online CSAE perpetrators whilst at the same time ensuring any children linked to such criminality are safeguarded and protected.
As a POLIT police staff investigator, you will receive intelligence referrals from a diverse range of sources, but primarily the National Crime Agency (NCA). You will review and develop the intelligence into an actionable product. You will give a prioritisation score to these products in accordance with Risk Assessments tools such as KIRAT and the new national Prioritisation tool in order that the highest harm cases are actioned in a timely manner.
You will swear out search warrants and attend locations to support the team to execute search warrants or conduct other enforcement action.
You will also have the opportunity to investigate cases of online CSAE from point of receipt of intelligence referrals through to prosecution at court as the Officer in the Case.
The team is made up of 1 DI, 3 DSs, 13 DCs, 2 PCs and 4 police staff investigators and are situated at Thorpe Wood, Peterborough. The team has a countywide remit.
The role does involve handling and viewing sensitive material and there is exposure to indecent images of children and other sexually explicit online material. Welfare provisions and measures are in place to support officers when viewing/grading such media.
The role also offers other benefits including a high level of autonomy and the ability to have the time and support to conduct high quality investigations; Continual Professional Development opportunities; exposure to new investigation techniques and working within a supportive, experienced and close-knit team.
HMICFRS recently commented that the welfare culture in the POLIT team is good.
Full details are included on the attached Job Description, which should be read before applying.
N.B – the key responsibilities of this role are under review.
Applications consist of a 500-word expression of interest, detailing why you feel you have the skills and experience to be considered, including previous experience of safeguarding or victim centred investigations you have been involved in.
Candidates successful at the paper sift stage will be invited to interview.
Please ensure you allow sufficient time for your application to be signed and submitted to recruitment by the due date.
