The Attorney General is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a Paralegal in the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Energy & Environment Bureau. EPD brings civil cases to enforce environmental laws; pursues other affirmative litigation, including litigation related to climate change; advocates to promote environmental protection; and defends the Commonwealth in certain environmental litigation.
Primary Duties: The qualified candidate will assist attorneys in the Environmental Protection Division in handling high-profile climate litigation and legal projects. Responsibilities will include fact gathering; researching and preparing substantive reports; engaging with subject-matter experts; legal research; attending depositions, court hearings, and trials; drafting discovery or other pleadings; managing e-discovery processes; organizing and maintaining files; reviewing documents and exhibits; advanced cite checking; providing support and assistance to the attorneys in preparation for hearings, meetings, or trials; communicating with clients, attorneys, witnesses, court clerk’s offices, and members of the public; and screening and preparing correspondence. The Paralegal will also be responsible for various administrative duties, such as managing calendars (including the scheduling of critical dates, deadlines, and case-related appointments); completing forms; preparing and filing court filings, including administrative records; and maintaining and updating case management systems.
The Paralegal will be in frequent contact with agency representatives, handle critical and confidential materials, and help ensure the highest level of professionalism in EPD. This is a fast-paced, high-profile work environment that requires the ability to work on a range of complex matters, often under time pressure.

Qualifications
Position Requirements: Applicants must possess a solid work ethic; effective communication, writing, organizational, and database management skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the capability to learn Office case docketing software; sound judgment; the ability to understand legal and technical information and work independently, as well as on teams; and ability to pay close attention to detail.
Applicants with experience as a paralegal in civil litigation or interest in environmental law are preferred. No specific experience in environmental litigation is required. An interest in issues relating to climate change and climate-related litigation is preferred.
