An exciting opportunity has emerged for an experienced nurse or allied healthcare professional to join the Neurology Service, tasked with further developing and delivering a specialist service for patients with Parkinson’s disease across Surrey Downs. We are seeking a forward-thinking Nurse or Specialist Practitioner with a strong interest in Parkinson’s and Neurology, along with demonstrated experience in managing patients within the community.
The successful candidate will assume a pivotal role in the development and delivery of a high-quality specialist service for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Responsibilities will encompass conducting assessments, providing expert advice and interventions, raising awareness about Parkinson’s disease and its associated symptoms, and fostering collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient care pathways.

Responsibilities:

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

The post holder will be responsible for the continued development and delivery of a high-quality specialist service for people with Parkinson’s disease.
To be responsible for undertaking assessments, providing expert advice and interventions within the specialist area of Parkinson’s whilst promoting a seamless service with a multi-professional framework.
To provide expert support, advice and education to raise the awareness of the needs of patients with Parkinson’s disease and the associated symptoms.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous clinical specialist with access to advice and support from senior colleagues.

MAIN CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide high quality, comprehensive and timely assessments for people with Parkinson’s to support at all stages of Parkinson’s including end of life.
  • Formulate a specialised programme of care using advanced clinical reasoning
  • Use specialist knowledge to refer to other professionals and for diagnostic tests
  • Actively manage a caseload ensuring prioritisation of time and clinical priorities
  • Assure current skills and practice meets evidence-based standards and guidelines by participating in clinical meeting and practice learning with local Parkinson’s networks and using benchmarking and relevant standards and guidelines (eg. NICE).
  • To monitor any changes to medication regimes, communicating responses to the GP and the consultant responsible for the care of the client
  • To facilitate good communication links between the client and carers and those involved in the management of the condition
  • To participate in training and education of the individual, their carer and health and social care professionals involved in the management of the condition
  • To provide support to clients with psychological and psychiatric problems associated with the condition.
