Job Description:
Perkins Coie LLP is looking for a talented and dynamic individual to join our team as a Patent Prosecution Paralegal Assistant whose primary responsibility is to provide highly varied and complex administrative support, with minimal supervision, to designated attorneys, paralegals, clients, and to Perkins Coie LLP.
In addition, as a member of the Perkins Coie LLP professional support staff team, this position is also responsible for promoting and maintaining the goodwill and reputation of the firm. In this capacity, the Patent Prosecution Paralegal Assistant is expected to maintain the highest level of professional conduct and confidentiality.

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Ability to learn and apply new skills to legal assignments.
  • Strong attention to detail, with good organizational skills for prioritizing workload.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of firm personnel with professionalism and tact.
  • Capable of communicating accurately with paralegals and attorneys.
  • Ability to apply good judgment and discretion to a variety of situations.
  • Ability to express self effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Solid knowledge of standard MS Office applications (including Word, Outlook, and Excel).
  • Strong internet research skills.
  • Capacity to understand and efficiently complete basic legal tasks under the supervision of paralegals.
  • Understand professional responsibility requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
  • One year of patent prosecution experience is a strong plus.

    This position may be filled in the following location(s). The compensation depends on qualifications and experience.
    San Francisco Bay Area compensation range: $56,400 to $80,270 annually
    Los Angeles compensation range: $51,460 to $73,240 annually
    San Diego compensation range: $50,800 to $72,310 annually
    Washington State compensation range: $46,610 to $66,340 annually
    Washington, DC compensation range: $50,340 to $71,650 annually

Responsibilities:

  • Begin and apply training related to patent prosecution procedures and rules.
  • Apply training to draft reporting to clients for paralegals’ review and comments.
  • Apply training to draft U.S. patent prosecution documents for paralegal review and comments.
  • Apply training to conduct patent searches for U.S. and international patents and publications.
  • Update client records (physical and electronic).
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines with multiple paralegals and meet assigned deadlines.
