We Are Hiring:

  • Department: Medical Clinic
  • Schedule: Full Time, 40 hrs, Days.
  • Hospital: Ascension Allegan Medical Clinic
  • Location: Ascension Allegan Hospital

What You Will Do:

This position performs various tasks directly related to collecting and analyzing of data for the process of registering Inpatients/Outpatients, discharge services with cash collections, distribution of all legal documents pertaining to Patient Access. This position is critical in working with all departments within and outside of the hospital to collect and report correct patient demographics and insurance information. Direct Customer Service for the Emergency Waiting room. Responsible for Hospital switchboard.

  • Interview and register all outpatients and inpatients by collecting accurate patient and insurance information.
  • Enter all patient information into computer system accurately and timely.
  • Obtain all necessary signatures and/or legal consent for treatment and/or admission, Advanced directives and Important Message from Medicare (IM). Give Observation and Patient Right information letters when appropriate.
  • Contact insurance carriers and/or patient Primary Care Physician as required by insurance contract and/or policy to gain approval for services, via Internet access, phone and/or written document.
  • Contact all scheduled self-pay patients to make arrangements for payment and addresses all self-pay patients at point of service for payment.
  • Accurately participate in the collection and recording of authorization and precertification or all HMO/Managed care Insured patients.
  • Accurately maintain checks on all scheduled services updating all insurances and demographic information given by physician office.
  • Make copies, when needed, to fulfill requirements from outside sources in reference to payment and court required documents.
  • Accurately identify the hospital when answering the switchboard. Accurately answer, page, beep, transfer calls and assist with voice mail processing.
  • Accurately and quickly relay all messages to appropriate departments and/or areas.
  • Continually seek out work that needs to be done and report free time to Supervisor.
  • Maintain positive attitude, speech and appearance.
  • Comply with department policies for dress code.
  • Accurately and quickly perform duties as Department Manager, Supervisor or Coordinator assign, including participation in the training of new employees, and working with Quality Work Groups.
  • Accept payment from patients and/or others and write receipts of the same.
  • Willingly accept specific duties to oversee department projects assigned by Supervisor including but not limited to the following; Authorization, Self-pay, Cash collections, Physician master, Insurance master, Customer Service, Computer/ Technical files and special project coordination.
  • Positively interact with patients, physicians, staff, visitors and all others whom employee comes in contact within all circumstances.
  • Audit work for accuracy.
  • Perform follow up functions as needed.
  • Maintain personal notebook of department policies, insurance information and changes in those policies and procedures.

What You Will Need:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Work Experience:

  • Medical experience preferred.
  • Medical terminology experience preferred.
