Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with populations in mental health, drug and alcohol, nursing home, long term care, hospital or personal care settings, group home settings or juvenile placement settings is STRONGLY PREFERRED.
  • Possess one of the following:
  • a) Minimum 1 year of general healthcare experience,
  • b) 6 months of experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion,
  • c) Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation,
  • d) Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
  • Microcomputer experience strongly preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient care, including assisting with procedures, activities of daily living, and therapies
  • Foster professional and respectful relationships with colleagues and patients while participating in unit activities like group activities, passing meal trays, and patient transportation.
  • Provide patient and family education under RN direction and adhere to hospital protocols, including restraint application and removal.
  • Demonstrate clear and effective communication with the healthcare team and exhibit cultural competence and sensitivity.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions and infection control measures.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and complete assigned tasks efficiently and timely.
  • Support departmental changes, initiatives, and quality improvement projects.
