- Experienced Payroll professional
- Working knowledge of relevant NZ Employment Legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience in interpretation and application of collective employment agreements
- Keen eye for detail and high level of accuracy
- High level of computer literacy
- Excellent data entry skills including knowledge and skills using databases, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
- Clear and competent written and oral communication skills
- Experience working in a complex environment with many compliance requirements.
- Experience providing support to a range of people including managers.
- Able to build and maintain constructive relationships, particularly with remote connections.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Relevant level 5 or 6 qualification, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 4-5 years payroll, end to end experience in medium to large organisations
Payroll experience with specialist knowledge at an advisor level
Experience working in a team providing specialised payroll in support of PCW delivery
Understanding of and previous involvement in delivery of payroll legislation frameworks, policies, standards, and experience with multiple collective agreements
Sound relationship and stakeholder engagement skills
Proven attention to detail and resolve to get it right first time
Knowledge and understanding of the vocational education sector
Excellent people engagement skills, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to anticipate needs and apply initiative
Responsibilities:
An exciting opportunity exists for an energetic and enthusiastic Payroll person to join our team. We are looking for someone who can work autonomously, with a high work ethic, and can work within and maintain systems to get the job done. The purpose of this position is to provide responsive and focused Payroll processing and information services. The Payroll Advisor will have an important role in inputting information, providing support and advice to kaimahi (employees) regarding the use of the system. The focus of the position will be primarily on ensuring that kaimahi are paid in accordance with their employment arrangements and legislation, proactively seeking ways to improve payroll processing, and providing professional, timely, and accurate reporting.
This role reports to a national Payroll and Assurance Lead (based in Auckland) and is situated within the local People & Culture team of UCOL, based on the Manawatu campus, in Palmerston North. We are open to remote applications for the right type of candidate.
This is a full-time position, and we are open to vary this based on the incumbent’s skill level and preferances.
