Job Description

  • Administer payroll for various employee types, ensuring accuracy and compliance with both provincial and Canadian Labour Code regulations.
  • Provide expert advice to employees and leadership on payroll and benefits matters.
  • Perform bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll entries for over 600 employees across all divisions.
  • Verify and reconcile timecards and adjust payroll accordingly for hourly employees.
  • Work closely with employees and managers to ensure accurate pay data and resolve discrepancies autonomously.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Conduct regular audits of all activities in the Payroll and Benefits team ensuring accuracy.
  • Open, update and store employee files within payroll system.
  • Create custom reports and audit reporting related to payroll.
  • Ensure compliance and application of company policies.
  • Administer and support year-end payroll activities such as reporting and reconciling, tax form preparation, summary filing, etc.
  • Handle contribution entries of group retirement plan and troubleshoot with the Benefits Specialist when required.
  • Investigate benefit and work accident (WSIB, CNESST, etc.) related issues and support / administer the resolution in an effective and timely manner.
  • Assist with the organization of company initiatives associated with group compensation and benefits.
  • Maintain a well-informed knowledge of the company benefit campaigns, vendor relationships and enrollment processes.
  • Collaborate and assist with development and implementation of payroll process improvements, benefits programs, and other initiatives.
  • Perform all related tasks as required and requested by management to meet departmental business and service needs.

Qualifications

  • University degree or certification in related subject area of Human Resources, or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Administration or a related field an asset.
  • 7 years or greater of previous experience in a similar role.
  • Certification from the Canadian Payroll Association is an asset. CPM, PCP designations will be an asset.
  • Exhibits a high standard of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates impeccable organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with a willingness to work within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent written, and verbal communication skills, Bilingual (English/French).
  • Ability to speak with all levels of management with professionalism, diplomacy, and organizational savvy.
  • Experience with HRIS systems. Experience with ADP Workforce Now is an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook).
