first. Our Group Payroll function are the Bank’s operational heartbeat delivering our employees payment accurately and on time.
We have two 12-month fixed term Payroll Officer roles to join the Group Payroll Team. Reporting into the Payroll Lead, you’ll be responsible for accurate maintenance of employee records, correctly calculating withholdings, superannuation, and entitlements, complying with employment laws, and relevant Enterprise Agreements and Awards, adhering to payroll schedules and deadlines.
The Payroll team are experienced, so you’ll be surrounded and supported by experts keen to share their knowledge with you. What you need to bring is a genuine interest in learning, strong attention to detail, proficiency to prioritise and manage your time effectively, ability to remain calm under pressure, and passion for delivering outstanding customer service. You’ll join a close-knit team where the work is fast paced, and everyone nurtures and supports each other.
This role is based in Bendigo or Melbourne for the days that you are in the office, and then other days you’ll be working from home to help better balance your life and work.

As the Payroll Officer you will:

  • Provide effective and accurate payroll services, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of the Bank’s payroll and activities
  • Collect, calculate and enter data in order to maintain and update payroll information
  • Process selected correction pay-runs including the calculations of all pay-related adjustments
  • Manage and process leave calculations, long service, and sick leave payments
  • Accurately process Centrelink parental leave payments, Child Support deductions and ATO tax variations, superannuation requests adhering to superannuation stapling requirements, termination payments, ensuring long service leave is reconciled and paid in accordance with the relevant state legislation
  • Administer personnel, leave, and timesheet records, ensuring data integrity through high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Identify overpayments and accurately calculate, register update and overpayment letters
  • Calculate backpays, process and tax in accordance with ATO rules
  • Maintain various tracking tools such as off-cycle payments, terminations, and error registers
  • Process LeasePlan, Payroll Tax, Creditor payments (fortnightly deductions) as required for the group
  • Conduct analysis, problem solving and testing as appropriate/required for effective payroll delivery

To be successful in the role, you’ll have:

  • Previous experience in payroll and strong attention to detail
  • Experience with CIA/Ci software highly regarded but not essential
  • Intermediate competency across the Microsoft office suite, particularly Word and Excel
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, and the ability to set work priorities to meet deadlines
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fantastic customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively building positive working relationships with team members and key client stakeholders
