Description:

Position Summary:
The PE Controls Engineer 2 is responsible for the design, configuration, integration, and implementation of manufacturing process control systems. This includes supporting process changes and projects to accommodate new models or products and to improve the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment. Skilled, hands-on problem solving combined with software programing of various types of controls components. The PE Controls Engineer 2 also works directly with the production engineering and maintenance teams to provide enhanced troubleshooting and controls software support for manufacturing equipment downtime issues.

Position Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist in the design, install, commission, test and support manufacturing process control systems and automation.
  • Modify and troubleshoot various PLC, HMI, VFD and servo programs and modify as required.
  • Diagnose issues with plant Ethernet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT and DeviceNet communication networks.
  • Configure SCADA system and utilize scripts to add/modify manufacturing equipment in the plant’s data and enterprise management system and visualization tools.
  • Maintain and expand Virtual Machine servers and network architecture to support plant expansion and modernization.
  • With occasional assistance, provide effective controls support to resolve manufacturing equipment failures, faults, and runtime issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and lost production.
  • Identify root causes of equipment issues and develop solutions to eliminate reoccurrence.
  • Assist in design, selection of parts, ordering and managing vendors, install, commissioning and testing of control systems in manufacturing process automation projects
  • Interpret and prepare electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase the operational efficiency of manufacturing equipment.
  • Document program changes and improvements for lessons learned and group communication.
  • Interface well with other teams to solve production problems.
  • Assist production engineering and maintenance teams in troubleshooting and with repairs and projects.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Analyze problems in a high-volume production atmosphere.
  • Adapt well to changing responsibilities and work environment.
  • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs.

Knowledge & Skills:

Competency:

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience preferably within high volume manufacturing environment
  • General PLC, HMI, VFD, Servo programming / project experience
  • General SCADA, Ignition, Python Programming, SQL experience

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), or other relevant Bachelors in Engineering degree with controls focus required.
