How you make a difference:
The Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a therapeutic atmosphere for patients by engaging with them and staff alike. Through individual and group interactions, they actively advocate for patients and aid in resolving their concerns. Additionally, they facilitate patient education sessions, participate in treatment team meetings, and ensure compliance with facility regulations while upholding strict confidentiality of patient information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts individual and small group meetings with patients to monitor their mental health progress and address their needs.
  • Assists patients during the admission process, ensuring they understand their rights and available services, and collects acknowledgment forms for their clinical records.
  • Conducts patient satisfaction surveys and confidential interviews to assess the level of contentment with treatment and services received.
  • Handles patient complaints, documenting details and following up on actions taken to address their concerns.
  • Facilitates peer support activities, support groups, and presents discussions on life management skills and discharge preparation in coordination with treatment teams.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • Experiential understanding of mental illness.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Eligible to be certified as a Peer Support Specialist preferred.
