About Us
The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
MCV is the largest court jurisdiction in Victoria employing over 1,300 judicial officers and staff. The People Services team are responsible for the timely and effective delivery of strategic, tactical, and operational peoplecentred HR services, enabling MCV staff to focus on delivering court excellence.
About the Role

With a focus on high quality customer service and compliance the People Services Officer cultivates positive working relationships with a diverse range of internal stakeholders and supports the Court by facilitating HR processes across the employment lifecycle with a particular focus on high volume end-to-end recruitment (external and internal).

  • Act as the first point of contact for HR queries and requests and respond in a timely and professional manner that is consistent with relevant legislation (e.g., VPS Enterprise Agreement 2020, Fair Work Act 2009) and policy and procedure.
  • Triage emails received and conduct quality/compliance checking as required.
  • Provide direct support and guidance to hiring managers and candidates throughout the end-toend recruitment process (external and internal) and collaborate with other internal service providers in the provision of our service offering.
  • Manage the Trainee Court Registrar (TCR) recruitment program on a six-monthly rotating basis.
  • Fulfil basic and routine requests for HR related data and reports.
  • Ensure accuracy in all work completed including records/document management.
  • In consultation with the Manager, People Services identify and implement process improvements that lead to greater efficiency, productivity, improved accuracy, and a positive employee experience.
  • Support the Senior Consultants, Manager, and Senior Manager People Services in the delivery of HR related initiatives and/or projects.

About You

  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Sound understanding of employment law with a demonstrated ability to effectively read and interpret legislative instruments including the Fair Work Act 2009, the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2020, and workplace policies.
  • Experience working with an Applicant Tracking System (Springboard preferred) and HR Information System (CHRIS21 preferred).
  • Experience working in a complex matrix organisation and/or the VPS (preferred).
  • A qualification in human resources (or equivalent) or working towards same would be highly regarded.
