Description:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join as Matron, to the newly established Perinatal Quality Education Workforce (PQEW) Team at North Bristol NHS. The primary objective of this team is to adopt a perinatal approach to delivering safer, more personalised, and equitable care at NBT, as set out in the Three Year Delivery Plan for Maternity and Neonatal Services. The Perinatal Quality Education Workforce Matron will be an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about driving transformational change in healthcare and will work side by side and in collaboration with the current PQEW Matron . The post holder will serve as an expert midwifery or neonatal nursing practitioner and role model to develop a workforce capable of providing safe and high-quality care standards. Additionally, the role involves managing staff members within the PEQW team.
The Perinatal Quality Education Workforce (PQEW) Matron will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team on the following:
Conduct local workforce planning regularly to ensure that NBT has appropriate staffing levels in Perinatal Services to deliver high-quality care for women and babies. This will help NBT meet the national commitment to achieve staffing establishment levels and fill rates by 2027/28 for midwifery and neonatal nursing staff.
Develop staff retention improvement action plans to identify and address local retention issues.
Implement the core competency framework that will guide local mandatory training programs to keep staff’s skills relevant to their roles up to date.
Ensure all perinatal staff have the opportunity for continuous professional development by taking responsibility for assessing training and learning needs by planning, implementing and evaluating the education and training across the service.
Strategically and operationally work within the Perinatal Quality, Education and Workforce team to promote the teaching, training, and ongoing development of midwifery and nursing staff.
Ensure that the non-registered workforce’s personal, professional, and practice development is an active process within Perinatal Services.
Provide leadership and management expertise.
North Bristol Trust’s perinatal services provide a complete range of obstetric and neonatal services to residents of North Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset. In our most recent CQC inspection, we received a rating of “good,” indicating that we are performing well and meeting expectations. We offer intrapartum care in a range of settings as well as high dependency care. We also offer a comprehensive Maternal and Fetal Medicine Service. Our antenatal ward includes a Maternity Triage and inpatient ward, while our postnatal ward is dedicated to providing top-quality postnatal care. Our NICU is a Level 3 Tertiary Unit, with 34 cots, including 8 intensive care cots, 8 high dependency cots, and 18 special care cots. NBT is part of the Southwest Regional Neonatal Network, providing care to the majority of extreme preterm infants in the region.

The role of Matron is fundamental to ensuring the provision of high quality, effective, service driven perinatal care, and is recognised as being critical to the successful delivery of Perinatal and Trust strategies.

You will be an advocate for high quality patient experience and choice and demonstrate excellence in clinical practice. You will be a team player who treats all colleagues with equal respect, is inclusive, democratic, and is prepared to manage staff to ensure delivery of a cost effective, efficient and equitable service.
You will be a dynamic, motivational, innovative, visible and active lead, representative of a modern perinatal service. As a key member of the clinical leadership team, you will be responsible for advancing change in several main areas of impact and will demonstrate commitment to service improvements as well as contributing to the strategic direction of midwifery areas across the organisation.
The role is accountable for the delivery of optimum patient care in your sphere of responsibility, working in collaboration with the Divisional Director Midwifery and Nursing, Deputy Divisional Director of Midwifery and Nursing and Divisional Management team.
