Description:
Under the supervision of the registered staff the Personal Support Worker functions as a team member assisting the residents in the Extended Care Unit and Interim Long Term Care Unit to meet their basic physical, social, and emotional needs. Shift rotations are subject to change.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
o Successful completion of the Personal Support Worker Program or equivalent education as a RN student completion of year 2 or greater, RPN student completion of term 2 or greater.
o Current CPR.
o One year experience working as a Personal Support Worker in a healthcare setting.
o Demonstrated knowledge of the Nursing Homes Act and all applicable legislation, specifically Long Term Care Homes Act 2007 and Ontario regulations 79/10.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care.
o Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service.
o Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and other members of the Inter-professional Team.
o Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care.
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills.
o Ability to work effectively both independently and within an inter-disciplinary team.
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
