The Personal Trainer provides instruction and leadership while maintaining a safe environment by conducting and monitoring effective and enjoyable exercise programs for individuals.

Responsibilities:

QUALIFICATIONS OF A PERSONAL TRAINER:

  • Required Certifications:
  • Current state approved CPR/AED, and First Aid
  • Current, national Personal Trainer Certification (ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE, etc.)

Current certification in area(s) of expertise

  • At least one year of personal training experience is preferred

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF A PERSONAL TRAINER:

  • Teaches effective, safe, and enjoyable exercise using proper exercise progressions
  • Demonstrates clear explanations and exercise material with proper form and technique
  • Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance
  • Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers
  • Increases participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors
  • Tracks progress of all clients for whom programs have been created
  • Follows up with each client on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Operates all equipment properly and promptly reports any problems
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary
  • Attends staff meetings and training courses as scheduled
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers
