Description:

Leads and delivers the highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to patients and the multidisciplinary team within the Medicine and OPM divisions to ensure optimum use of medicines. Provides expert advice on pharmaceutical matters for the division and undertakes risk management and ensures compliance with Medicines Legislation and other local and national policies and guidance. Responsible for the development, implementation and review of policies, protocols and related guidance within the associated division to enable the safe, clinically effective and cost-effective use of medicines. Leads managed entry of new medicines, including unlicensed drugs, for associated division.
Advises clinicians on business cases for the above and advises on prescribing protocols/guidelines for the use of new medicines to ensure clear guidance is available on the approved use on medicines at the time of introduction Manages the provision of financial information on drug usage within the associated division to assist budget management; identifies new drug and service developments, potential savings and cost pressures both directly and through delegation. Develops services within divisions, identifying new services and ensuring funding is secured for adequate staffing and new drugs Manages the specialist pharmacists within the associated divisions; responsible for all aspects of performance review, sickness absence management, recruitment and selection decisions, personal and career development. Manages the clinical education, training and development of all pharmacy within this pharmacy team. Ensures regular accompanied ward visits are undertaken with pharmacists to ensure practice standards and competencies are being met.
Leads the provision of education and training of the multidisciplinary team within the associated divisions. Manages audit projects around the use of medicines within the division. Provides expert pharmaceutical input into multidisciplinary audit. Attends the Formulary and Medicines Committee as necessary to represent the division and or present items.
Where required within clinical areas lead on pharmacy support for Patient Group Directives and Shared Care agreements to facilitate effective and safe working practices. Supervises the dispensing of medicines within legal and ethical requirements and local guidelines to ensure that patients receive the correct medication in a timely manner. Participates in the pharmacy 7 day working pattern and participates in the Bank Holiday Rota as required. Participates in dispensary cover for up to 4 hours per week (10% of working time) to maintain basic pharmacy services and personal competency
