QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required OR Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
AND one of the following:
- Two years of previous pharmacy technician experience
- Enrollment in good standing as a pharmacy student
- Demonstrated competency in all detailed aspects of the Pharmacy Operations Specialists designated area which includes (Inventory Control, Chemotherapy, Medication Safety, Automation, Information Technology..etc.)

The Pharmacy Operations Specialist provides operational support within the pharmacy by demonstrating proficient knowledge of the responsibilities of a designated pharmacy role (i.e., Inventory Control, Chemotherapy, Medication Safety, Automation, and Information Technology etc.). The Pharmacy Operations Specialist services are provided in compliance with the Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and evaluate policy, procedure, and training materials regarding operational workflow of designated area
- Assist in training other Operations Specialists in determining their ability to function in DESIGNATED area of the Pharmacy department.
- Provide and received information (via telephone, person-to-person, or written) to hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Refer all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.

- Oversee and instruct other associates in the DESIGNATED area regarding day-to-day activities.

- Oversee and instruct other associates in the DESIGNATED area regarding day-to-day activities.
- Use computer skills to process and document information as needed for Operations Specialist’s designated area
- Take an active role in the training of fellow staff members in ones area of expertise.
- Provide feedback to the needs of the department and other associates in a respectful and effective manner consistent with UPMC values
