Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Pharmacy Resident achieves objectives and competencies for each rotation in accordance with ASHP standards for residents in pharmacy practice. The resident actively participates in patient care and ensures that medications are provided in a safe and rational manner. Any and all requirements of MMC employment will be met. In addition, the resident will conduct an independent research project. This project will be presented at the annual residency conference. Staffing in the pharmacy department is also required as needed by the determination of the pharmacy management team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Completion of course at an accredited School of Pharmacy, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD.
  • Must be a MATCHED candidate through ASHP NMS program
  • NJ State License due within two (2) months of start date
  • Hospital pharmacy experience desirable
  • Understanding of the role of the pharmacy department within the hospital, its interrelationships with other departments and functions.
  • Successful completion of all orientations

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Day Shift
  • Full-Time
  • 40 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Assumes role of drug information provided to all members of the healthcare team specific to patient populations and age groups
  • Monitors specific medication prescribing in accordance with established drug usage criteria, prior to dispensing, as defined by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
  • Provides four (4) clinical presentations per year (e.g. journal article review, drug review, etc.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, workshops, in-service meetings, etc.
  • Oversees preparing of parental admixtures, dispensing, and compounding of medications
  • Provides educational rotation for pharmacy students as required
  • Meets progression standards of ASHP Residency Program
  • Oversees the dispensing of medications as it relates to filling Pyxis, Unit Dosing and Patient’s own medications
  • Utilizes the medication screening process to insure medication orders are complete, appropriate, within legal parameters and prioritized
  • Completes other duties as assigned
