Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician fills routine orders for unit doses and prepackaged pharmaceuticals, and performs routine duties. The Pharmacy Technician is required to round on the nursing units, deliver medication, refill pyxis machines, and complete unit inspections as assigned. The Pharmacy Technician also answers the phones and helps with inquires.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Required to be registered with the State of New Jersey at time of hire; Certification approved by New Jersey

    • Ability to work every other weekend as needed

Preferred:

  • Board of Pharmacy PTCB highly desirable, but not required

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shift working: Monday-Friday 3-11PM
  • Rotating 3-11PM every other weekend
  • Rotating to cover the overnight shift
  • FT role, shift differentials for evening and night are provided

Responsibilities:

  • Answers telephone by the third ring Identifies self and department and asks to assist the caller
  • Takes accurate complete messages
  • Customer Satisfaction
  • Maintains cleanliness orderliness of the department
  • Follows procedure for correcting problems with computers, fax machines, translogic and other automated devices
  • Performs rounds for delivery of medications or ancillary products as assigned
  • Inventory Control
  • Restocks pharmacy dispensing area and supplies
  • Replenishes floor stock for patient care areas and ancillary departments as received
  • Processes emergency drug containers
  • Accurately documents dispensing of controlled substances following department policy
  • Inspects all inventory for expiration dates and proper storage
  • Under direct supervision of pharmacist aids in non-interpretive pharmacy functions such as counting packaging labeling and filling medication orders
  • Files delivers charges and credits patient medications as assigned
  • Aids in non-interpretive admixture functions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
  • Routinely and promptly expedites delivery of patient medication via translogic
  • Knowledge of appropriate drug dosages for all age groups under direction of pharmacist
  • Medical healthcare error reporting
  • Safe storage and monitoring of use of narcotics
  • Safe storage of paralytic agents
  • Double check system for IV admixtures
  • Stocking and quality control for automatic dispensing machines
