We are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity to join the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Programme Team at Northampton General Hospital. In partnership with our chosen supplier, we have embarked on our digital excellence journey to implement a nationally-leading EPR system that will transform the quality of care for our patients and staff by having instantly accessible information using the latest mobile technology, reducing paper usage and utilising clinical decision support tools.
The Pharmacy Technician Digital Medicines will work as part of a dynamic Chief Clinical Information Officer team. The postholder will have an understanding of digital systems and will support the Digital Clinical Leads, Transformation Specialists and Specialist Pharmacist Digital Medicines with efficient and effective management of the on-going EPR development, education, implementation and training of our NGH EPR. The role is responsible for facilitating digital transformation for new digital solutions and upgrades to existing digital solutions across NGH with clear collaboration with internal and external stakeholders as required.
The role is responsible for operating as a key member of the Chief Clinical Information Officer portfolio which focuses on ensuring there is clinical engagement at all levels of the Group Digital Strategy. The postholder will work with Digital Clinical Leads, Specialist Pharmacist Digital Medicines, Pharmacy EPMA team, Digital Clinical Facilitators and Transformation Specialists by contributing to improving standards of care through the effective use of digital solutions.
The Pharmacy Technician Digital Medicines will provide specialist pharmaceutical knowledge for the development of the NGH EPR and other Digital Medicines projects.
The Pharmacy Technician Digital Medicines will work with pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare professional groups to facilitate improving patient care by participating in audits, research and benefits realisation data collection, analysis and subsequent improvements to our processes. They will specifically focus on the Digital Medicines agenda and work with our existing Pharmacy EPMA team on configuration, build and testing of the future EPMA solution.

The postholder will participate in engagement with end users to ensure clear documentation of current state processes and subsequent future state processes and support in clinical hazard workshops as required. They will work with members of the multidisciplinary team within the hospitals and at community venues, including all clinical colleagues, operational colleagues, administrative personnel and all teams within Digital and the EPR Programme.
The postholder will work collaboratively with our digital teams, pharmacy and clinical teams by acting as a representative of their clinical profession to ensure we are using technology effectively and efficiently to improve the quality of care and patient safety.
The postholder is required to be a suitably qualified and experienced healthcare professional who holds and maintains current registration with an appropriate professional body relevant to their training and experience. Experience of working in an acute healthcare setting and enthusiasm for healthcare information technology systems is essential.
Travel to the hospital site will be required.
Main Duties
To operate as a key member of the Chief Clinical Information Officer portfolio which focuses on ensuring there is clinical engagement at all levels of the Group Digital Strategy
Facilitate delivery of effective, safe clinical systems with all groups of clinical, administrative and operational staff
Provide clinical advice and guidance to support the delivery of the programmes associated with the Group Digital Strategy including the NGH EPR
To facilitate the efficient and effective management of the on-going EPR development, education, implementation and training of our NGH EPR with our wider EPR programme team
To support digital transformation for new digital solutions and upgrades to existing digital solutions with clear collaboration with internal and external stakeholders as required specifically, within digital medicines
To support with the configuration, building and testing of the future EPMA system
To work with Digital Clinical Leads, Specialist Pharmacist Digital Medicines, Pharmacy EPMA team, Digital Clinical Facilitators and Transformation Specialists by contributing to improving standards of care through the effective use of digital solutions
As directed by Digital Clinical Leads, Specialist Pharmacist Digital Medicines or Group CCIO, the individual may lead on specific elements of digital systems implementation and/or quality improvement programmes
To provide specialist pharmaceutical knowledge for the development of the NGH EPR and other Digital Medicines projects
To attend relevant EPR meetings associated to Digital Medicines
Delivery
Ensure visibility within all clinical areas particularly within Pharmacy
Facilitate ongoing implementation, development and optimisation of EPR with the wider EPR programme team
Work closely with all CCIOs, Digital Clinical Leads, Digital Clinical Facilitators and Transformation Specialists to support delivery of EPR
Ensure your clinical input in design and configuration of clinical systems and support testing of clinical systems
Contribute to “lessons learnt” for projects to define changes in subsequent processes and procedures
Support the digital clinical safety officer and promotion of clinical safety within all digital projects and programmes
Identify, and communicate the impact of risks to programmes and work with project managers and Transformation Specialists for project delivery against realistic timeframes
Assess evolving hospital processes and consider how this impacts care with Digital Clinical Leads and wider stakeholders
Promotes clinical and health intelligence systems capable of reporting measures to evaluate patient outcomes, to support research, and operational improvement across the continuum of care
To assist with delivery of key Digital Medicines projects and support with quality improvement projects within Digital Medicines
Engagement/Communication
Act as role model for all clinical staff – providing a high level of clinical expertise and support across all divisions
To participate as a Digital Responder with the Digital teams and actively support all staff with digital queries
Work with the Digital Training team to support to support the development of a competent, technology-enabled workforce
Contribute to the assessment of Digital Literacy with the Digital Training and Engagement Manager and Group CCIO
Ensure that relevant professional stakeholders are consulted and engaged in the design, delivery and evaluation of clinical information systems and that prioritisation of developments is clinically-led by the appropriate clinical/professional groups
Actively seek views from multi-disciplinary, clinical, operational and administrative colleagues and teams in the development of high quality and innovative clinical information systems that assist the clinician in their delivery of care
Act as an advocate for digital solutions as an enabler for safe and effective care
Convey and receive highly complex, highly sensitive and possibly highly contentious information
Ability and capacity to quickly absorb and understand large amounts of complex, information whether in written, verbal, numerical, analytical and electronic forms
Act on own initiative to deal with contentious and sensitive issues but also recognise professional limitations and seek support where required
Establish excellent relationships with Digital teams, Pharmacy team, staff at all levels and external bodies
Support the patient voice by working with trust/ group leads to continuously encourage digital volunteers and patient representation in line with the demographic of the population UHN serves
Partnership working
To work in partnership with wider system digital clinical colleagues in supporting collaboration across KGH and NGH and wider ICS/East Midlands Acute Provider Network
To represent the Group locally, regionally and nationally where required
Innovation
Challenge the clinical community to identify areas to try out new ideas in a safe way, seeking to define emergent approaches to digital delivery that can be implemented
Identify areas where innovative digital solutions would improve patient care and efficiencies and promote others to do the same

To participate in testing new software, systems and system upgrades to ensure that applications function according to expectation and are safe to deploy
Incorporate expert practice in line with the Group regulatory framework and professional guidelines
Ensures coordination and integration of standard of care practices across all clinical departments for quality patient care
Facilitates the assessment of new technologies to be used in clinical settings, ensuring that the solutions meet national guidance within clinical settings.
Provides support with disaster planning and recovery strategies consistent with principles of high reliability
