Description:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our High Cost Drug and Homecare Pharmacy team.
This new post has been created due to the great work, by our high cost drugs team, in identifying savings in medicines use and also the increasing number of patients on homecare treatments.
We have a small and very friendly team who work closely together with the rest of the pharmacy team across both sites and also with clinicians and nursing staff across 12 clinical specialities.
In this role you will also have lots of opportunities to learn about new medication, the commissioning of medicines that we use, and make a real difference to improving patient care by helping start patients on specialised high cost drugs.
You will work with other members of the team to maintain databases of high cost drugs, manage prescriptions and invoices for patients on homecare medication and answer queries from clinical staff and patients about homecare supplies.
You should enjoy working on computers as the role does include high use of computer software systems and spreadsheets. Excellent communication skills are also key as there will be frequent queries from homecare companies and from the clinical teams
Full training will be given on all the systems we use and you will be encouraged to keep your core skills up to date by a weekly half day sessions in the dispensary or with the clinical ward pharmacy teams speaking to in-patients by their bedside.
Your main role will be to maintain the smooth running of our increasing number of patients receiving high cost drugs at home, via 3 rd party homecare companies. You will liaise with medical and nursing teams across many specialties, to co-ordinate repeat prescriptions. You will also answer queries from homecare companies regarding queries on these prescriptions when they arise. You will also assist the clinical teams switch high cost drugs to biosimilar and generic equivalents.
Another part of the role will be helping to manage Immunoglobin usage within the Trust and across the Kent and Medway region. This includes liaising with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that national and Trust immunoglobulin databases are maintained, and that the relevant national and internal forms are completed correctly.
Computer experience would be an advantage, though not essential, with regards to Excel and Word. Training will be provided in these areas as well as the use of our Pharmacy computer dispensing system JAC/Wellsky. There will also be a level of weekly dispensary commitment where you could work towards your checking qualification, if you do not already possess this. Opportunities may alternatively be available for ward medicines management duties, if you prefer a more clinical option.
