Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join the Procurement Team at the Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH). In this role you will work alongside the Senior Technician for Procurement, Principal Pharmacy Technician for Procurement and Homecare and the Pharmacy Assistants within Procurement to provide a high standard of procurement and ward medicines management services at the RGH. As the principal site for procurement within ABUHB, you will work as part of the Procurement team to deliver the Health Board wide Procurement agenda and wider initiatives to ensure medication is available for timely administration to patients.
The pharmacy provides a high-quality medicines service supplying medication to a variety of patients, wards/departments and peripheral hospitals. You will use the stock management processes within the pharmacy Wellsky system to determine medication ordering requirements and appropriate pharmacy stock levels to ensure availability of medication and minimising stock waste across the Health Board.
The post is advertised as part-time, 27 hours per week. Working pattern to be agreed on appointment.
Under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Technician Procurement, assist in the management of medicines procurement on the RGH site.
To assist in delivering the day-to-day management of medicines procurement within a framework of legal, professional, departmental and Health Board financial policies and procedures.
Deputise for the Senior Technician, Procurement as needed.
To carry out the accurate dispensing and distribution of pharmaceuticals to patients, wards, departments, hospitals and clinics served by ABUHB.
To undertake accuracy checking of prescriptions / patient profiles that have been dispensed by other pharmacy staff in line with local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
To provide a ward-based medicines management service as part of the pharmacy team
To provide advice to patients/carers on pharmaceutical matters.
To train and supervise less experienced technicians, trainees and support staff.
To use the pharmacy and other computer systems in order to carry out all tasks in an accurate and efficient manner.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
