Description:

As an integral member of the Pharmacy Department and patient care team, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible and accountable for supporting a safe, efficient and effective drug distribution system within the overall medication use process in accordance with professional standards and hospital policies. This may include, but is not limited to, preparing hazardous and non-hazardous sterile and non-sterile medications, packaging medications, billing and reconciliation, narcotic and controlled drug management and inventory control, managing patient medication profiles, all aspects of drug procurement and inventory management, liaising with nursing staff on patient care units, medication delivery to patient care units, final product checks. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support the Medication Reconciliation process through the accurate gathering and documentation of a patient Best Possible Medication History (BPMH) and other quality improvement initiatives. Shift rotations are subject to change.

QUALIFICATIONS:

o Graduate of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician program.
o Current registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
o 6 months employment experience, within the last 2 years, using and maintaining pharmacy automation.
o 6 months employment experience, within the last 2 years, using Meditech Pharmacy module.
o 6 months employment experience, within the last 2 years, preparing sterile drugs required (both hazardous and non-hazardous).
o 6 months employment experience, within the last 2 years, as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital environment.
o Adequate knowledge of regulations governing Hospital Pharmacy practice.
o 6 months employment experience, within the last 2 years, with or certified in, BPMH (Best Possible Medication History) gathering and documentation required.
o Demonstrated ability to use the Microsoft® Office suite of products efficiently.
o Ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy.
o Demonstrated analytical thinking skills.
o Demonstrated organizational and time management skills needed to handle diversified and changing workload.
o Demonstrated leadership qualities including goal setting and service awareness.
o Demonstrated ability to adapt well to progressive change.
o Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication (verbal and written), teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
o Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
o Consistent and regular attendance required.
o Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
o Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a new hire requirement of the job unless you have an exemption based on medical or on a ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
