Description:
For the Swiss NSF-funded research project “Exploring the nexus of volunteer role identity and volunteer engagement: How does framing of beneficiaries matter?”, our Public Management and Organization research team at University of Bern’s KPM Center for Public Management seeks to recruit a PhD candidate for a 4-year position, starting in August 2024 or by agreement.
Tasks
- In collaboration with the postdoctoral fellow coordinating the project, you will actively review the literature on framing and volunteering, as well as conceptualize, collect and analyze qualitative data
- You will conduct your doctoral work within the context of the project
- You will collaborate closely with non-profit organizations supporting refugees in German-speaking Switzerland, as well as with a team of internationally renowned scholars
- You will assist the team in rendering the project relevant for project partners and beyond
- You will contribute to joint conference submissions, research publications and support project coordination (reports, organization of workshops and annual meeting with project partners and collaborating organizations)
Requirements
- You hold a master’s degree in organization or management studies (possibly also in a related discipline, such as sociology, communication or political science, pertinent to the research project)
- You have a solid command of and interest in qualitative empirical research methods; an experience in media analysis is a plus
- You are motivated to collaborate with non-profit organizations supporting refugees in Switzerland and to explore the media framing of refugees
- You have the ability to work independently, meet demanding deadlines, as well as cooperate with diverse project members
- You have excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- German as mother tongue (or an equivalent level) and very good English skills are a prerequisite
