REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION AND YRS EXP

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience

EDUCATION AND YEAR OF EXPERIENCE

  • BA or BFA (ideally with a focus in Photography or Studio Art).
  • One – three years of relevant experience.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Applicant must possess exceptional Digital and Photography skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people: students, interns, faculty, administration and exhibit clear written and verbal communications.
  • Capacity to work independently, collaboratively, and as a team.
  • Knowledge of historical and contemporary fine art photography.
  • Research new digital technologies and output materials.

Digital Imaging & technical Skills required:

  • Mac OS X latest platform.
  • Current Photoshop: digital color, color, contrast, sharpening, etc., workflow to generate proofs and high-quality prints. Making selections using masks, utilizing Photoshop actions, working with basic text and design elements.
  • Knowledge Adobe Creative Suite.
  • In depth Color Management.
  • Large Format Inkjet Pigment Printing.
  • Word Processing/spreadsheets.
  • Print production: Expert command of digital pigment printing technology, specifically using Epson 3880 and 9900. Familiarity with printing and handling prints up to 44” wide is a plus.
  • Scanning: scan press, negatives, etc., using flatbed and Imacon scanners.
  • Camera formats: High end DSLRs (working with RAW files), 35mm, 4×5, 6×7 analog.

EDUCATION AND YEAR OF EXPERIENCE

  • MFA (To understand tech support within the studio art context) preferred, but relevant experience is more important.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Adobe Premiere & After Effects (video editing software).
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign.

MENTORSHIP, CLASSROOM SUPPORT, INTERN TRAINING & MANAGEMENT

  • Provide technical group workshops to supplement classes (Photography 1, 2, 3, Senior Seminar, and Special Topics courses.) – Individual meetings with advanced students and specific assistance for student exhibitions, as required.
  • Maintain regular office and drop-in hours for technical assistance and printer use – Appointments with department visitors (Visiting faculty, Artist in Residence, etc.) seeking access to facilities or technical training.
  • Train photography interns with:
  • Chemistry safety and procedures, hazardous waste disposal, emergency protocol etc.
  • Chemical use, mixing, storage, troubleshooting and cleanup
  • Darkroom equipment use, checkout system, lighting studio checkouts, strobe kit assembly, digital camera use, basics of camera equipment functions (to facilitate checkouts), and darkroom procedure basics (to facilitate monitor hours competency).
  • As needed – Train other interns, lecturers, and staff in maintaining Studio Art digital facilities, digital photography, and lighting (to facilitate monitor hours competency and documentation of models, digital photography, and lighting (to facilitate student equipment checkouts, printing, and artwork documentation).

Responsibilities:

To maintain the facilities for photography (darkrooms, digital photography classrooms, advanced digital classroom, analog photography classroom, printers, scanners, and lighting studio, other) in the Studio Art Department. To provide instructional workshops for analog and digital photographic processes, ink jet printing, video, and sound media. To support studio art department curriculum including photography, video, sound, and/or photographic printed media use, as needed.
