If so, our Physical Health Senior Nurse Practitioner position at Lansdowne Children’s Home in Hailsham, East Sussex may be just the role for you!
This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse, that focusses on addressing the health inequalities experienced by young people with traumatic experiences and complex needs.
You will be joining the Integrated Health and Emotional Wellbeing Service (IHEWS), a small welcoming multi-disciplinary health team whose role is to provide both physical and mental health support, substance misuse and primary care services for the young people at Lansdowne.
This post offers the Trust’s £4,000 Incentive for band 5-7 Nurses & Practitioners, as well as a relocation package up to a maximum of £8,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

The Setting
Lansdowne Secure Childrens Home is 12 bedded provision for young people aged 12-17. The young people are placed with us for welfare reasons, secured under the Children’s Act (1989), Section 25. They have a history of persistent absconding and are likely to continue to abscond from anything other than secure accommodation, during which episodes they are likely to suffer significant harm, or injure themselves or others. The young people have complex needs and are described as high need/high vulnerability/high risk.
The IHEWS Team
The Integrated Health & Emotional Wellbeing Service (IHEWS) is an embedded multidisciplinary health team commissioned by NHS England to support the physical and mental healthcare needs of young people at Lansdowne Secure Children’s Home (SCH). Lansdowne SCH is 12 bedded provision for young people aged 12-17. The young people are placed here for welfare reasons, secured under the Children’s Act (1989), Section 25. They have a history of persistent absconding and are likely to continue to abscond from anything other than secure accommodation, during which episodes they are likely to suffer significant harm, or injure themselves or others. The young people have complex needs and are described as high need/high vulnerability/high risk.

Responsibilities:

Initial assessments of physical health on a young person’s entry to Lansdowne
Support to the GP’s and Practice Nurse who provide the primary care provision.
Facilitating access to secondary services such as dentistry and optometry.
Leading on the support to care staff who are caring for a young person with chronic health needs e.g. diabetes or epilepsy
Monitoring young people’s physical health as required e.g. after a restraint, or as part of a wider health promotion intervention e.g. to address obesity.
Working collaboratively with the social care and education team on the creation of an environment that prioritises healthy eating and healthy living.
This is a part time post.
