MD Management Limited, a division of Scotia Wealth Management, has an exciting opportunity for a talented, enthusiastic, and client-focused Senior Manager, Physician Planning Strategies to join our team.
As a Senior Manager, Physician Planning Strategies, you will support the professional practice management of our advisor network, including productivity, growth, and efficiency activities when it comes to planning strategies for physician households. This leadership role will lead and support multiple advisor channels, mid to large corporate initiatives and will work closely with sales leaders to equip our advisors with the skills and tools they need to meet their professional obligations and business objectives. This role will provide strategic and operational support to the Director, Financial Planning in creating and maintaining various initiatives for the Financial Planning Centre of Excellence within MD.
This leadership role will help guide the Tax Planning Strategies for physicians and their household. The incumbent will support and enhance financial planning best-in-class strategies, programs, initiatives, and learning, with a strong focus on advanced planning topics related to taxation and income planning for Canadian physicians and their family. This is designed to support our client facing advisors with the engagement of their clients, through the financial planning process, and the identification and closing of business opportunities for various lines of businesses within MD.

Responsibilities:

IS THIS ROLE RIGHT FOR YOU? IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

Lead the strategic and tactical implementation of best-in-class advice and solutions specifically related to advanced financial planning topics including but not limited to, medical professional corporation advice, tax planning strategies, pension-based initiatives and enhanced financial case support.
Lead the creation, national delivery, and enhancement of tax-focused specialty knowledge streams to regional leaders and Advisors and work closely with the MDM front office to support current and evolving projects and requirements.
Act as a key partner to various teams including; MD Signature, MD Wealth Strategy, MD Planners, and the rest of the MD Financial Planning Centre of Excellence regarding best practices and processes across the tax planning specialty field.
Engage key stakeholders including but not limited to Marketing, Compliance, Taxation, and IT with respect to creating, reviewing, enhancing and implementing tools, products, services, processes, strategies and training on the tax planning topic within the financial planning process. This includes developing and deploying strategies to solve for gaps related to tools, processes and practices.
Spearhead specialized financial planning MD project initiatives in your areas of expertise and provide support to other financial planning general initiatives.
Provide support to advisors and leadership teams by promoting and driving strong financial planning engagement and business results by:
Maintaining a strong level of knowledge and understanding of the needs of physicians and how this relates to the MD business, as well as the short and long-term business objectives and goals in order to align advice to meet these needs.
Identifying financial planning tactics to improve the client experience and ensuring the right solutions are being presented to meet client and business objectives.
Developing physician focused strategies and tactics to incorporate identified industry and internal best practices into the financial planning business, while staying current with external market conditions and influences
Creating financial planning (Medical Professional Corporation) practice standards while partnering with regulatory and operational teams on the adherence and monitoring of such standards.
Working with advisor and planners to develop national best practices for financial planning performance and implementation techniques.
Working with various teams of advisors, specialists, and leaders to optimize collaboration that would help drive business results and ensure key messages, content, tools, etc. are being utilized.
Contributing to the creation/delivery of learning /presentations to increase advisor engagement in the financial planning process and to increase understanding of how to engage physicians and their households in the financial planning process.
Acting as a subject matter expert in external communications, presentations, media requests etc.
Staying up to date with changes in tax rules that would impact physician and non-physician clients and their financial plans.
Understanding how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Contribute to the effective functioning of the Financial Planning Centre of Excellence by:
Participating actively in team learning development activities and team performance achievements.
Building effective working relationships across the team and with various business lines and corporate function contacts.
Maintaining a high level of customer service – which may mean supporting our end clients (Canadian Physicians and their families) or your internal clients (MD’s advisor network), in a timely and professional manner
Facilitating a culture of open and honest communication.
Actively participating and contributing to group touch bases and team meetings.
Encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches.
Actively share knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members.
Developing and executing a meaningful employee development plan.

  • Strong Presentation skills particularly related to financial matters. The ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdependent team and individually when required. Works well with autonomy and is an excellent communicator in a modern, flexible work environment.
  • Proven skills and experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, peers, client facing advisors, leadership, and senior management.
  • Superior time management and prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
