JOB SUMMARY

The Pipeline Integrity Management(IM) Engineer is responsible for managing the integrity management program for Patrick Engineering. The IM Engineer leads efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget and may include long range planning for engineering activities on complex projects or multiple major projects. The IM Engineer at this level exercises independent initiative and judgement in setting and implementing engineering goals and provides guidance to teams, contributing to the team’s understanding of quality and how it impact’s the team’s domain with respect to their role.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited institution required (discipline in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Petroleum, or equivalent fields of study)
  • 3-10+ years of experience independently planning, performing, and coordinating advanced level professional and technical engineering studies, computations, drawings, reports, and surveys
  • 1-5 years of experience leading an integrity management group a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of design techniques and tools in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering required (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary work: exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer (fine motor skills, visual acuity) and frequent use of telephone (talking, hearing).

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • 75% plus travel (i.e. job sites) may be required based upon business need. Client is located in the Chicago area

Responsibilities:

  • Be the focal point for ensuring all integrity related issues are managed and that the appropriate support is provided to the operations team. Analyze pipeline integrity data, identify hazards and make recommendations for mitigating risks
  • Assist the implementation and continuous improvement of the structural integrity programs and inspection procedures
  • Carry out daily inspection activities
  • Analyze defect data from UT & LRUT surveys and carry out detailed integrity reviews for inspected assets
  • Provide qualified engineering advice and approval of small engineering change, maintenance deferrals, ORA’s as per the authorization / approval levels dictated by clients engineering standards
  • Lead innovation and research, and contribute to SI methodology
  • Participate in industry committees (ASME, NACE, PRCI, API, AGA)
  • Serve as the site’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) for MI Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP), including applicable Process Safety Management (PSM) MI regulatory requirements and audits
  • Lead, plan, train, and supervise the work of engineering staff; verify the work for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications
  • Provide technical expertise for discipline and serve as coach for engineering team
  • Direct and mentor junior engineers and support their development
  • Provide support with coordination of workload and setting priorities for projects within team
  • Manage a variety of personnel actions including but not limited to selection, promotion, goal setting, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions
  • Perform engineering in connection with major or complex engineering projects and/or multiple projects simultaneously
  • Complete challenging engineering computations, analysis, and lead designs from conception to completion
  • Prepare design packages utilizing QA/QC policy and all applicable client standard and code requirements
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of engineering plans, specifications, and costs for projects
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work
  • Assist with scope development and prepare cost estimate of new work
  • Interface with clients and develop proposals for service
  • Review shop drawings and other vendor documentation for conformity with specifications and prepare technical reports
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
  • Review and help to ensure production and quality standards are achieved by junior team members
  • Responsible for sealing of plans or other legal/official documents
  • Work cross-collaboratively and serve as lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of engineering work
  • Perform and/or review field survey work and evaluate collected data; assist with field engineering support and inspections as needed
  • Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properly
  • Other duties as assigned
