We’re seeking a passionate Place Officer to join our team and make a real difference in community wellbeing within the City of Melville.

The City of Melville has embarked on an exciting journey to transform the way it does business to meet the challenges and needs of our current and future community. Our transformational project agenda is ambitious and includes going carbon by 2030, upgrading our internal technology, living and breathing a customer-first approach and ensuring a vibrant and diverse local economy and community with a place-based approach*.

  • The City of Melville’s framework for a place-based approach is currently being developed and will identify and implement tailored projects and programs based on place-specific needs and drivers.

We believe in empowering our residents and businesses to lead their own projects and community activations to foster vibrant and active places. With dedicated officer assistance and initiatives, we support our community champions to create meaningful connections and build vibrant communities. You’ll work alongside proactive groups such as town teams, collaborating to enhance our neighbourhoods and town centres.

AS PART OF THIS ROLE YOU WILL BE…

  • Supporting cross functional place focused teams aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Supporting the development of, and advocate for, a place-led approach across the City of Melville.
  • Working with all internal and external working groups and forums relevant to the planning and activation of City of Melville places to support the implementation of projects and initiatives.
  • Supporting place capacity and knowledge building within both the organization and community.
  • Supporting the development of place assessment reports and action plans and reporting on the progress of place improvement actions.
  • Delivering assigned projects and initiatives on time and on budget.
  • Collecting data and community intelligence to measure the economic, social, cultural, environmental, and physical impacts of actions in identified places.
  • Building relationships and capacity of community members, town teams, local businesses, and other external stakeholders to support positive engagement and communication.
  • Undertaking assessments, funding processes, monitoring and acquittal of grants.
  • Taking appropriate action in line with established policies and practices with the aim of maintaining a strong customer service.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL POSSESS:

  • Essential: Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline
  • Essential: Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
  • Demonstrated experience in placemaking and community development.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of economic development.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed organisation, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, maintain flexibility, and drive projects
