Planning Assistant - RQ1213984
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join the Belfast Planning Service team within Belfast City Council, as a Planning Assistant for the summer period.
As a Planning Assistant, you will be integral in supporting officers with planning applications, control, and enquiries from the public. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within the field of planning and contribute to the vibrant community of Belfast.

Your Duties:

  • Assist in processing planning applications and breaches of planning control.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations in collaboration with the Senior Planning Officer.
  • Respond to planning enquiries from the public via various communication channels.
  • Conduct site visits across Belfast to gather relevant information and research planning histories.
  • Provide support and advice to business support officers regarding validation, consultation, and publicity.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the service delivery.
  • Participate in studies related to the development plan for Belfast City Council area.
  • Uphold the reputation and public profile of Belfast City Council through professional conduct and performance.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the department.

Your Profile:

Essential Criteria:

  • Currently studying for a relevant third-level qualification in Planning and Property Development or equivalent.
  • Possession of a full driving license valid in Northern Ireland and access to a vehicle for official business purposes.

Special Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent customer care skills with the ability to handle sensitive issues effectively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently when necessary.
  • Proficiency in standard office computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases.
  • Demonstrated political sensitivity and understanding of confidentiality principles.
