JOB DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this role is to carry out inspections, interpret and report on mechanical integrity of refinery equipment, maintaining historical records and offering recommendations on continued use of the equipment, or rectification using cost effective repair options.

  • Ensure the integrity of static equipment according to statutory requirements, Viva and inspection group procedures.
  • Prime accountability for execution of their assigned risk-based and statutory inspection tasks, analysis of inspection findings and cost-effective repairs to ensure ongoing asset safety, integrity and reliability.
  • Maintain relevant equipment inspection records and develop history of plant identifying operating conditions that affect inspection tasks, asset integrity and future equipment life.
  • Investigates equipment failures and integrity incidents, and other incidents as nominated. Recommends preventative actions to mitigate re-occurrence of integrity issues in the future, delivers assigned MTA actions relating to static equipment and corrosion threats.
  • Actively monitor asset condition and work to mitigate short-term integrity threats with urgency. Investigate any equipment failures, identify contributing factor and pre-conditions, implement future preventative mitigations and barriers.
  • Effectively utilise contract NDT personnel to ensure quality test results from cost-effective surveys.
  • Actively participate in the RBI “living program” at Geelong refinery. This includes planning, preparation, assessment and update of inspection planning from new and existing RBI analysis.
  • Recommending asset end of life dates and appropriate replacements, options for continued service or priority of asset repair in accordance with local standards and service conditions.
  • Determining the limiting equipment out-of-service schedules in accordance with statutory requirements and inspection procedures. Planning and executing inspection activities to premise.
  • Determine the inspection needs to ascertain the condition of equipment to ensure continued integrity and functionality.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recognised trade qualifications with a minimum of five years trade experience.
  • AICIP In-Service Inspector certification or API510 Pressure Vessel Inspector.
  • Minimum two years refinery plant engineering experience preferred.
  • Assessor of Quality Assurance Systems qualifications preferred.
  • Tertiary engineering qualification such as Mechanical Engineering is an advantage.
  • Understanding of continuous process plant operations, ideally oil refining (distillation, conversion, treating etc), or oil and gas processing.
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of technical (process plant) risk management techniques and decision making to As Low as Reasonably Practicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise all available communication channels.
  • Highly skilled in managing complex external and internal stakeholder relationships in a highly collaborative manner.
  • Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence an assurance and continuous improvement mindset.
  • As a Plant Inspector, have the ability to be collaborative and active to provide integrity solutions within the Refinery.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all activities are conducted and managed in accordance with agreed HSSE practices and procedure as outlined in the Geelong Refinery Management System.
  • Input into pressure equipment improvements for increased reliability and safe operation.
  • Support refinery projects as required.
