Description:

Tribute Baking Company is the strategic combination of four businesses with rich histories in the baking industry! Always Bagels, Original Bagel, Dutch Maid and Hometown Foods USA, together, create a market leading producer of authentic New York style kettle-boiled, hearth-baked bagels and high quality cake products sold into the in-store bakery, club store, foodservice, and convenience store channels.
The Plant Manager ensures that all company food quality, food safety, food legality, line efficiencies and product wastes, service and safety levels are met or exceeded on a consistent basis. The Plant Manager will assist other departments in recommending and implementing methods to improve product safety, quality, processes, and overall plant efficiency on an ongoing basis. To be successful in this role, you must be hands-on, have a solutions mindset and display leadership to help empower employees and contribute to the achievement of corporate, plant, and individual goals.
The Plant Manager is based in our Dorchester, MA location which is a 120,000 square foot commercial bakery that specializes in cakes. Plant production runs 16-20 hours/day, 5 days/week and some Saturdays as needed. You must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes working evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergencies, as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree strongly preferred
  • 10 years of food manufacturing experience with a strong preference for commercial bakery experience
  • Experience working in a commercial bakery that specializes in cakes is strongly preferred
  • 5 years of management experience in a plant environment
  • 5 years experience leading safety function or initiatives
  • Verbal and written fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Vietnamese is preferred
  • Knowledge of GFSI or other quality body certification standards.
  • Solid working knowledge of FDA, State and USDA regulation or equivalent.
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • A high degree of analysis, problem-solving, and creativity
  • Strong organization skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is expected to see, hear, remaining in a stationary position often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.

  • Use hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Stoop kneel and bend.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, carry, or maneuver weights of up to twenty-five (25) pounds independently and fifty (50) pounds with assistance.
  • Exposure to environmental changes (heat, cold, dampness, chemicals) in the plant
  • Working conditions; manufacturing environment requiring strict work/safety rules approximately 100% of the time

Responsibilities:

  • Manages production to meet all internal and external customer objectives.
  • Sets up and monitor procedures to improve the plant performance.
  • Leads troubleshooting of formulation and process deviations.
  • Ensures food quality, food safety, legal standards and efficiency standards are met or exceeded consistently.
  • Leads the SQF certification efforts at the plant level.
  • Maintains compliance with FDA, OSHA, State agency and markets regulations.
  • Effectively manages payroll and expense budgets. Participates in the budget development.
  • Works with all departments to coordinate all activities within the company that arise during the manufacturing cycle.
  • Review daily production reports and develop plan to resolve the issues identified in these reports.
  • Effectively manages the production capacity, manpower, equipment, and outside resources through planning, organizing, and scheduling to minimize losses and to optimize company profitability.
  • Troubleshoots the production process to improve production yields, internal processes, and overall plant efficiency.
  • Responsible, with HR, to review and evaluate all direct reports and provide coaching, corrective action plans and training to staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Supports and provides necessary resources for training of the workforce on food safety, plant processes and anything else tied to continuous improvement.
  • Uphold and enforce the Company’s labor standards, health and safety, environmental programs and follow business ethics policies.
  • Participate in Company social responsibility policies and programs development.
