Description:

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Leadership & Management

  • Champions the Drax Safety culture; leads, creates, and maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legislation and regulations.
  • Creates and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders (Plant Management Team, Plant team members, Central Operations, Corporate).
  • Excels at communication both written and verbal, establishes and communicates clear expectations (targets); uses great tools to measure and monitor performance and uses a clear accountable system to track & report actions.
  • Sets and owns performance standards, communicates to team, and holds accountable through regular communication forums. Completes regular performance reviews and feedback opportunities.
  • Coaches on the fly, builds and maintains strong working relationships and proactively mitigates employee relations situations through these relationships.
  • Champions onboarding & orientation, providing consistent & coordinated experiences for new hires
  • Champions change to drive improved performance. Stays current with production management best practices, increases knowledge through educational opportunities; reads technical publications.
  • Maintaining HR records and documentation.

Operational Execution

  • Owns and safely delivers on environmental compliance, on quality, on production, on time, and on budget. Allocates resources effectively and fully utilizes assets to produce optimal results.
  • Delivers and executes the annual budget, optimizes costs and expenditures, maintain financial standards by providing annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions. Monitors P&L on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis
  • Provides a clear sense of direction and focus to the team.
  • Is a teacher of Lean manufacturing. Learns, teaches, and mentors by using lean tools with the team. Is a champion of the lean book club.
  • Hires, trains, develops, mentors, and evaluates staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Ensure compliance with current regulations. Consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
  • Review performance against operating plans and standards. Provide reports to subordinates on interpretation of results and approve changes in direction of plans.
  • Establish objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities. Issue specific annual objectives to immediate subordinates and review objectives (MBOs and KPIs) to ensure alignment with corporate goals.
  • Identify training needs, initiate development of subordinates and recommend effective personnel action.
  • Works with our Fibre team to ensure raw fibre inventory is adequate to meet plant requirements for volume and cost.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all plant assets, ensuring short- and long-range planning occurs to minimize downtime.
  • Leads the coordination of rail car requirements and loading schedules with logistics team.
  • Internal customer to the engineering team. Supports the implementation of site Capital projects, safely, on time, on budget.
  • Meet plant targets by working in conjunction with corporate support groups such as HSE team, Technical, Engineering, Fibre, Purchasing, Finance, and Human Resources.
  • All other job duties and responsibilities as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 7 years of managerial experience in leading and motivating high performing teams. You should have strong knowledge of business and management principles, budgeting, planning and more., preferably in Wood Products Manufacturing
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, operations, a related technical field, or relevant focus.
  • Proven commitment to Safety both personally and through positive influence on all stakeholders. Previous experience/broad understanding of safety systems, safety culture and achieving safe performance
  • Strong knowledge of business and management principles; budgeting, planning, resource allocation, human resources.
  • Previous experience implementing and using continuous improvement tools such as problem solving, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at one time and on budget.
  • Effective leadership and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with others in a diverse environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management focus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with personal computers and business applications, including the ability to learn new systems and use Microsoft Office Products to analyse data and trends.

Responsibilities:

The Plant Manager directs and manages overall production, maintenance, quality and business related activities of the site. The individual provides tactical and strategic leadership of the site, while engaging all stakeholders to identify priorities and recommend solutions to support the business.
