QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a production manager or plant manager in a high volume 24/7 manufacturing environment. Wood product manufacturing experience is an asset
  • Must have experience with one-piece flow process
  • Engineering degree, wood science qualifications or business degree an asset
  • Background in implementing, driving and coaching Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives in a manufacturing setting
  • Qualifications in Six Sigma or Theory of Constraints an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and improve safety and plant financial performance
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business communications, policies, procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondences and effectively present information to management and customers

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Plant Manager for MDF Manufacturing – Calgary, Alberta is responsible for the plant’s financial results, operational excellence, employee growth and development in this highly automated, high volume, 24/7 plant. Additionally, the Plant Manager engages with and supports the customer and supplier relationship. Ideal candidates will have a passion for manufacturing a great product, providing outstanding customer service (internally and externally) and leading / developing teams.

  • Operational Excellence: Create a team that is passionate about being professional and industry leading in all aspects of the plant operation
  • Safety: Provide safety leadership to create a culture where safety is a core value and the team is driving for an injury-free workplace.
  • Leadership: Develop a team that is inspired, motivated and organized to achieve great results over the long term.
  • Customer Service: Ensure a consistent product supply to meet sales forecasts.
  • Lean: Implement continuous improvement and operational best practices.
  • Asset Utilization: Optimize care and deployment of the capital assets of the plant.
  • New Product Introduction: Produce and deliver new products in an effective manner.
  • Collaboration: Partner with other teams to ensure alignment on achieving areas of shared accountability such as customer satisfaction and financial metrics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Director, MDF Manufacturing - Calgary to create the annual business plan.
  • Develop key objectives for direct reports that are supportive of the overall goals for the business.
  • Foster a safety focused culture, promoting the importance of employee education and commitment to company goals.
  • Identify, analyze and adopt appropriate industry best practices in manufacturing, production and safety.
  • Lead teams, and develop initiatives that improve our productivity, reduce waste and lower our overall cost of production.
  • Collaborate with leadership teams across Metrie to create, measure and improve operational KPI’s.
  • Create, lead and sustain a robust safety culture in the plant. Measure critical safety metrics on a monthly basis, identify potential issues and take appropriate actions
  • Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communication, coaching, training and development
  • Lead and develop performance management competencies, SMART goal setting and individual development plan creation for direct reports
  • Continue to mentor and develop competencies in your teams that lead to improved performance in their current role and/or future roles
