Maple Lodge Farms is Canada’s largest independently owned poultry processor. It engages in processing and supplying chicken products in Canada and internationally. It offers bacons, deli chicken meats, sliced packaged meats, fresh seasoned chicken, frozen boxed meats, and wieners. Maple Lodge Farms, Ltd. was founded in 1955 and is based in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

Shift: Monday to Friday; 2:00 pm to 12:00 am

What you will be doing:

  • Manages the responsible area (all shifts), by ensuring that all aspects of production, food safety and quality are met. Manages goals and objectives for this area/shift.
  • Ensures all aspects of the operation are followed and enforced (e.g., safety, quality, yield, union issues, HACCP, BRCGS, etc.) daily, and that all Supervisors are following established guidelines and expectations on productivity, quality, and safety. Ensures that all products manufactured in the department meet the company and customer requirement.
  • Liaises with other departments to ensure all plant expectations are met. Participates or assigns an employee when new products are developed, and during plant trials.
  • Reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs/MI) of the department as required. Ensures all SOPs are consistently followed and enforced, Shelf-Life, Traceability, Pricing Updates, Manufacturing Instruction Approval.
  • Ensures BRCGS Ready Plant – Improvement to Pre and Post Op sanitation activities.
  • Review and validation of production paperwork.
  • Facilitate Weekly KPI meetings.
  • People Management: provides overall management of a team or business area and includes management of individuals indirectly through subordinate supervisors; responsible for all aspects of Human Resources functions for a team, including team building, time and attendance, performance management, and disciplinary matters; builds and maintains a motivated and effective plant team through effective engagement and sharing of information across plant management teams and functional areas; ensures consistency across the plant in effective, timely, and fair performance feedback and documentation; ability to organize and delegate work, using the Leader Standard Work approach to hold others accountable for results; willingness to learn & apply new skills and teach others by sharing knowledge to grow self, others & the business, involving employees in developing solutions, and providing guidance, direction, feedback, and recognition to the team; effective communicator who inspires, motivates, and creates an environment for open and trusting 2-way communication with all levels in the organization; and courage to challenge the status quo, lead & embrace changes and decisions that drive progress.
  • Budgeting: responsibility for headcount and associated overhead budget and Labour Variance to Standard.
  • Policies, Processes & Procedures: adheres/complies with company policies and procedures; recommends, develops, and implements enhancements and improvements to departmental policies and procedures; and ensures that all employees under position leadership, follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures,

What will you bring:

  • Five years’ experience in a food manufacturing industry, preferably meat and in a unionized environment, with a minimum of 3 years in a management role.
  • You lead by example and inspire your team to deliver top results. Your approach is collaborative and offers a forum where everyone feels comfortable bringing new ideas forward. You are passionate about H&S and food safety and promote a culture where safety comes first.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a keen proactive sense of continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of food and meat plant regulatory standards (CFIA, etc.), GMP, HACCP, BRCGS, food safety, food quality, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WHMIS, and all other workplace H&S regulations.
  • Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities; Financial acumen to understand costing and budgeting responsibilities.
  • Strong Computer Skills (e.g., MS Office – Outlook, Excel etc.).
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in a related field required.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt asset, but not required.
