Description:
The City of Penticton Building and Permitting Department has an open position for a Plumbing Inspector - Relief. The Building Department helps to ensure that buildings are safe and that there are consistent standards for construction in Penticton, including plumbing systems.
This position reports to the Building Department Manager with direct supervision from the Plumbing Inspector. This relief position will add additional capacity to the City’s permitting and inspection of plumbing systems, including the review and approval of applications and the conducting of inspections during busy periods. Other duties may include ensuring compliance with the City of Penticton’s Building Bylaw and Irrigation, Sewer and Water Bylaw including the review of cross-connection control and other mechanical systems for backflow prevention.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND CERTIFICATES
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- The ability to read and understand technical plans.
- A valid BC Trades Qualification in Plumbing (or equivalent certification).
- A plumbing Official I certification with BOABC, or commitment to obtain such within 6 months of employment.
- A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
PREFERRED TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, MEMBERSHIPS
- Previous experience in a municipal or provincial setting with field experience directly related to enforcement of bylaws, regulations, and acts.
- Cross Connection Control Survey Inspector certification or the ability too obtain such within 12 months of starting in this position.
- Experience and/or technical courses in fire sprinkler and irrigation system design.
- Building Official certification (BOABC).
- Working knowledge of BSI and Tempest (Prospero) Software.Conflict Resolution or similar types of communication course.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the review and administration of plumbing permits for small residential and commercial water and sanitary services.
- Point of Contact for general public and professional inquiries pertaining to plumbing and associated topics for small residential, multifamily and commercial construction
- Assist in maintaining the City’s database of backflow registrations, including the review of inspection records related to the installation and testing of backflow prevention assemblies.
- Assist in the investigation of industrial, commercial, institutional, agricultural, and residential water systems for proper cross connection control protection to ensure that public health is safeguarded through the protection of the City’s water supply.
- Assist in ensuring cross connection control requirements at all premises where plumbing modifications have or will occur.
- Attend or conduct various meetings as needed with clients and staff.Perform other support related duties as required.
