The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rush University Medical Center, nationally recognized in patient care, education, and research, is currently recruiting a Research Scientist. This position requires a Ph.D. degree.
The Department seeks applications from candidates with expertise in a rehabilitation related field (e.g. Musculoskeletal/Spine, Neuroscience, and Cancer). Other areas of interest include outcomes research or health services research. This is a unique opportunity for a post-doctorate fellow or faculty to join a team of expert clinicians.

PREFERRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Ph.D. Degree with expertise in a rehabilitation related field (e.g. Musculoskeletal/Spine, Neuroscience, and Cancer).
  • Other areas of interest include outcomes research and health equity research.
  • Research training in analysis of human diseases with bioinformatics skills.
  • Innovator in discoveries to improve patient care, resident, fellow, and medical student education, and scholarly activities that advance clinical and translational medicine.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to enhance research culture in the department and develop strong working relationships and support team members.
  • Educator to convey principles of research development, grant writing, publishing/disseminating
  • Experience in collaborating with communities and stake holders
  • Commitment to evaluating inter-departmental collaborations.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Ph.D. degree with major coursework in field of assignment and six (6) years research experience in field of assignment, including at least one (1) year at level of Research Scientist or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs and personally participates in major medical or scientific research projects, including development and implementation of research protocols.
  • Selects key research personnel; determines specific goals or objectives to be attained; assigns and reviews work of subordinates.
  • Reviews and analyzes resulting research data, revises techniques, or approaches to work problems as indicated as necessary by research data.
  • Compiles, writes, and submits project results to principal investigator or department chairperson.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as one of co-authors.
  • Designs, develops or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.
  • Apply for sources of internal and external funding.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at national and international conferences to large audiences.
  • Plans and supervises training of technicians and other laboratory personnel as needed
  • Confers with industrial, governmental, or other groups concerning progress or results of research project.
  • Supervises large group of employees engaged in performance of technical and professional work, which varies from routine to complex laboratory work tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
