Summary: PnL Explain Analyst
Job details
As a PNL Production and Explain analyst, you’ll be responsible for producing and validating daily PNL and PNL Explains for Exotic Trading Desks within ex-Fixed Income. You’ll lead a team of associates, ensuring the delivery of precise PNL figures to key stakeholders within Front Office, RISK, and Finance. Your role will be critical in maintaining the integrity of our financial reporting and supporting strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
Core Accountabilities:
- Overseeing the production of associate team members, providing essential quality checks on PNL figures delivered to key departments.
- Reviewing and challenging PNL reports, investigating discrepancies, and understanding economic drivers behind profit/loss outcomes.
- Conducting in-depth analysis of PNL Explains, correcting inaccuracies, and ensuring alignment with risk-based market assessments.
- Reconciling system valuations against calculations for specific products and validating adjustments in economic PNL reports.
- Mentoring associate team members on complex instruments and PNL construction, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Participating in meetings to represent the PNL Control function, offering expertise to support projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing team performance.
- Establishing strong relationships with the Business to understand their needs and drive improvements in service quality.
- Acting as a deputy for the manager in their absence, providing leadership and guidance to the team as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- University degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field, with significant experience in a control function within an investment bank.
- Previous experience in project management and a deep understanding of derivative pricing and risk factors.
- Proficiency in PNL explains (Step Revaluation and Risk-Based Explains) and familiarity with instruments traded in Fixed Income and other asset classes.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable recommendations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with the ability to articulate technical issues clearly.
- Proficiency in Excel and VBA, along with a willingness to learn and adapt to new software applications.
- Effective time management and prioritization abilities, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and the ability to collaborate across teams to achieve common goals.
