JOB DESCRIPTION

As a key member of our Government Relations and Policy team, the Policy Analyst supports TECHNATION’S policy advocacy, including analysis of announcements and current issues for the industry, preparation of policy position documents and federal advocacy initiatives, and providing support to member committees and working groups as required.
The Policy Analyst has a strong understanding of all three levels of government and the mechanics of how they function and has a keen interest in the political process and how it impacts the technology industry. The successful candidate is self-motivated, able to handle multiple issues and tasks at any given time, has a positive and upbeat attitude and enjoys working in a team environment and independently.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the economic, regulatory, and legislative contexts within which the ICT industry operates and/or strong understanding of Canadian federal and provincial governments.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Policy Analyst to join our Government Relations and Policy (GR&P) team. The Policy Analyst will assist in researching, analyzing, and developing policies that impact Canada’s technology sector. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a passion for public policy and a desire to make a positive impact on society.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research issues and develop association responses to influence the public policy agenda and ensure a favourable environment for the industry.
  • Research and recommend current, upcoming, and latent issues for inclusion in TECHNATION’s corporate plans.
  • Complete the analysis and development of TECHNATION positions on issues.
  • Keep TECHNATION staff and members informed of significant developments and their potential ramifications.
  • Support TECHNATION positions on important public policy matters.
  • Balance diverse member and stakeholder interests through innovative approaches and flexibility.
  • Identify the appropriate external audiences for TECHNATION positions to diverse stakeholders, including elected officials, civil servants, other industry associations, and the media.
  • Compose effective policy briefs, presentation material, and letters communicating association positions.
  • Support TECHNATION’s work advancing the transformation and digitization of federal services, including a modern procurement environment.
  • Work with the SVP and Vice President Public Policy to ensure industry engagement in all federal IT developments.
  • Support member issues with regard to government IT procurements.
  • Support for Ottawa-based industry events and general TECHNATION member correspondence will also be required.
  • Manage projects within approved budgets provided by the Senior Vice-President (SVP) Government Relations and Policy.
  • Partner with and provide support to Future Workforce Development (FWD):
  • Support various FWD activities including preparation of ongoing government proposals
  • Partner with the Career Ready (CR) Marketing & Program Development Mgr for content and potential speakers (both industry and government stakeholders)
  • Provide onsite spport for Ottawa in person events, and support for virtual events
  • Represent TN at CR events in Ottawa as required to support CR events & Student challenges to provide on-site support
  • Identifies opportunities for government officials to participate in activities with TN CR program eventsRepresent GR&P in Member webinars and outline opportunities for participation in the CR program (4.0)


    • Provide Logistics support:

    • Coordinate meetings (calendar invitations, agendas, presentations, guest speakers) for committees and working groups and communicate with associated members.
    • Help support the TECHNATION team to host Ottawa-based events.
    • Support the communications of TECHNATION GR&P events, budget submissions, policy, etc. via social media channels, providing the Communications team with appropriate content.
    • Advise TECHNATION staff of actions to capitalize on opportunities linking issues in creative and helpful ways, garner respect and goodwill for TECHNATION, solidify member loyalty, and attract new members.
