Description:

The Post-Doctoral Researcher will work on cutting-edge bioinformatics methods in relation to the gut microbiome. The applicant will provide computational support to ongoing projects and have the opportunity to pursue their own research interests in line with the following select publications: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.chom.2024.03.001, https://doi.org/10.1038/s41564-023-01464-1 and https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cell.2016.10.043. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will participate in an exciting bed-to-bench-to-bed translational research program involving synthetic gut microbial communities, patient cohorts, and international collaborations within the ‘Nutrition, Microbiome and Immunity’ group (https://nmi.lih.lu) led by Prof. Mahesh S. Desai.

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD degree in bioinformatics or a related inter-disciplinary field
  • High level of motivation for research, attention to detail, scientific creativity, and writing skills
  • Languages skills: fluent in English
  • Proficiency in machine learning and large omics data analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research project with sufficient guidance, yet enough independence to design and execute the experiments
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary research projects that will potentially open job opportunities in both academia and industry
  • Carry out microbial bioinformatic data analysis of samples from mice and patient cohorts
  • Further enhance key methodologies in microbiome and bioinformatics
  • Develop scientific methodology and techniques adapted to the research project
  • Present research work in leading international conferences
