Description:
We are recruiting a Post Doctoral Fellow to be part of our research and development team that is creating a Smart Hallway system for use in healthcare and eldercare institutions. The Smart Hallway uses four video cameras, connection and processing hardware, AI-based pose detection, and post-processing software to automatically identify a person’s joints and body segments as they walk through an institutional hallway, and then automatically generate a report on their movement biomechanics. The project involves partners at uOttawa, The Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre (TOHRC), Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), and University Research Institute Slovenia.
This phase of the Smart Hallway project will further refine the hardware and software to make this system robust and easy for end-users, improve the processing workflow and security, and provide better results faster. The smartphone app for running the system and accessing outcomes will also be improved based on software revisions and user feedback. Following this technical phase, data collection will proceed with able-bodied people and people with physical disabilities. This data will be used to generate new AI models that classify movement quality and help predict indicators such as fall risk and balance confidence.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS (EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE):
- Background in engineering or computer science, preferably in biomedical engineering area.
- Applicants can include those near graduating from a PhD program or recently awarded a PhD degree within the last year or who have a maximum of 3 yrs. postdoctoral research experience since the date of earning the PhD.
