POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN CHILD HEALTH EVALUATIVE SCIENCES WITH A FOCUS ON CLINICAL TRIALS FOR THE CANADIAN PAEDIATRIC INPATIENT RESEARCH NETWORK.

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary research program dedicated to improving care and outcomes for hospitalized children with the Canadian Paediatric Inpatient Research Network (https://www.pirncanada.com/). This position is full time under the supervision of Drs. Peter Gill and Sanjay Mahant, Paediatricians and Scientists, Child Health Evaluative Sciences, SickKids Research Institute (https://lab.research.sickkids.ca/mahant-gill/). This is a one-year position, with opportunity for extension to 2 years. Start date of June 2024, preferred.
The focus of the work will be the development, planning, and execution of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) focused on hospitalized children in general pediatric settings through PIRN building on previously conducted prioritization studies. The candidate will work closely with a team of experts in epidemiology, biostatistics, pediatrics, clinical trials, and patient partnerships to develop detailed grant outlines, write initial grant drafts, and revise grants for submission to funding agencies. They will also work with key co-investigators, collaborators, and knowledge users to obtain their input into grant proposals, including patient partners. Given the lack of clinical trials serving this important population of children, building foundational infrastructure for RCTs in PIRN has the potential to transform and improve care and outcomes for Canadian children.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team of clinical researchers and be involved in developing detailed grant outlines, including writing, revising, and submitting to funding agencies, focused on improving outcomes for hospitalized children.
  • Work with methodologists in formulating clinical trial design, and key co-investigators, collaborators, patient partners, and knowledge users to obtain their input into grant proposals
  • Develop clinical trial capacity in PIRN, including developing an RCT review committee, and refining the PIRN concept capsule process specifically for RCTs
  • Supporting the planning and execution of two in-person RCT workshops.
  • Translate data into knowledge products such as infographics, abstracts, summaries for various uses including general public and stakeholder engagement.
  • Relationship building (acting as key communicator between co-investigators, methodologists, collaborators, patient partners, and stakeholders)
