POSITION SUMMARY

APC Microbiome Ireland (formerly Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre) was formed in 2003 with funding from Science Foundation Ireland and in conjunction with key industry partners, it represents a seamless collaboration between UCC, Teagasc Moorepark. It is widely recognised that the gut microbiota plays an important role in human health and has become one of the most dynamic, complex and exciting areas of research in both food and pharmaceutical arenas. Over the last two decades APC Microbiome Ireland has established itself as one of the leading global centres in gut microbiota research. APC Microbiome Ireland has made several landmark discoveries and has published over 3500 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, generating many journal covers and associated editorials. APC Microbiome Ireland collaborates with over 20 industry partners and employs over 300 individuals, from the scientific PI’s funded by the partner Institutions, the management team, and a dedicated group of research scientists, research assistants and postgraduate students.
We now seek to employ a Postdoctoral researcher to perform microbial genomics, bioinformatics, and wet-lab work. The appointee will participate in a project that features collaborations with microbiologists, immunologists and cell biologists to investigate the mechanisms whereby microbes interact with the microbiome and promote health.
They will be joined by a research assistant and take on the leadership role within this project, directing and performing assays and taking responsibility for reporting directly to the industry partner on project progress and developments.
UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.

Post Duration: 12 Months
Salary: €43,908 - €50,302 p.a. IUA Post-Doctoral Research Scale (PD1)
