Description:

Do you want to advance the state-of-the-art research in material and computational design? The Royal Danish Academy invites applicants for a position as a postdoctoral researcher. The position is offered at the Royal Danish Academy, in the Institute of Architecture and Design, at the Cluster for Material Studies, and will work closely with researchers from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
The vacant position is a 1,5 year, full-time position and we hope to fill the position as soon as possible.
The position is part of the research project Matters, which is funded by a Villum Synergy grant. Matters is focused on material and computational design for analyzing, characterizing and developing novel wood composite structures. As part of the project, we offer two postdoc positions. The two postdocs will work closely together with the two project PI’s, Professor MSO Isak Worre Foged (The Royal Danish Academy) and Associate Professor Dimitrios Papadopoulos (Technical University of Denmark). One postdoc is formally employed at the Royal Danish Academy with the candidate expected to have a background in architecture or design with previous studies in material and computational design. One postdoc is employed at the Technical University with the candidate expected to have a background in computer science with previous studies in computer vision and machine learning. To be considered for the position at the Technical University, please read more about that position on their website www.dtu.dk.
The Cluster for Material Studies, at the Institute of Architecture and Design, is a research environment studying and developing material phenomena and performances across architecture and design scales. Our aim is to develop knowledge, methods and demonstrations that impact the ability for architecture and design disciplines to develop aesthetic and sustainable solutions which influence society generally and humans directly through perceived experiences. Our strategy is to study materials in synergetic investigation trajectories of material making, material programming and material perception.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are looking for a person with a visionary professional profile committed to delivering results, presenting knowledge and contributing innovative thinking in the area. With a focus on process and method and the inclusion of the latest knowledge and technology, you are expected to be able to contribute cutting-edge knowledge to the field. Our general aim is to strengthen the subject area of advanced analysis and design of wood composites and specifically contribute to the Matters research project as part of the dedicated research team. Your duties will include research in the focus area of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

As a minimum, you hold a relevant master’s level degree and a PhD or PhD-level scientific qualifications at the starting point of the position.

We also expect that you:

  • have a background in architecture or design.
  • have demonstrated previous studies focused on material studies, ideally related to wood species.have demonstrated previous computational design research, ideally related to optimisation and machine learning methods.
