Job Description To conduct neuropsychological test batteries and to assist with translating the findings into therapeutic approaches which can be utilized by a transdisciplinary or interdisciplinary team. To provide family counseling and education concerning clinical populations relevant to rehabilitation and neuroscience programs. To assist with the coordination of a clinical database and promote research. To provide the highest quality of patient care for patients within the scope of practice and established standards for psychologists; to maintain the highest standards of safety throughout service provision. To cooperate and collaborate with parents, caretakers, and other professionals to meet the total needs of the patient and family. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the postdoctoral neuropsychology resident will provide a minimum of 4,000 hours of direct psychological evaluation and cognitive remediation/psychotherapy services to patients and families in the Neuropsychology department over the course of two years. To proactively support the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children’s.
Experience
Clinical training and/or experience in neuropsychology and pediatric psychology
A minimum of 1,000 hours experience in direct assessment and care of patients identified as having neurological deficits
Experience providing family therapy/counseling particularly as in relates to issues of impaired neurofunctioning is important
Minimum of two years of experience working with children
Preferred Qualifications
Good writing skills and research experience
Education
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in psychology or Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.)
Clinical training and/or experience in neuropsychology and pediatric psychology
Completion of predoctoral internship at an APA-approved intern site
Certification Summary
BLS certification is required within 30 days of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient skills in psychological and neuropsychological assessment and treatment of children
Job Responsibilities
The resident will be supervised by licensed a team of credentialed doctoral staff members in the Department of Neuropsychology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
The supervisor will work with the resident in order to provide effective delivery of services appropriate to the patient’s specific needs, severity level of disability, and impairment.
Evaluation of the resident includes technical competence in: Provision of appropriate assessment and appropriate treatment.
Completion of reports meeting established standards.
Ongoing development of assessment standards and treatment plan meeting standards for establishment of goals and parent participation.
Completes appropriate documentation in a timely manner.
Functions as a positive, cooperative team member.
Demonstrates effective use of time.
Supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
Maintains current BLS certification.
Demonstrates and practices family-centered care: Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family; Communicates relevant information to the patient and family’s level of understanding; Identifies patient/family need services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
