About the position
Do you want to work at the forefront of innovation, applying AI in medicine as part of the expanding field of medical technology? Do you want to work on an EU-project with a consortium comprising leading universities, hospitals, and industry?
The Intervention Centre at Oslo University Hospital is a partner in a large EU-project led by HoloCare AS called “HoloSurge - Multimodal 3D Holographic tool and real-time Guidance System with point-of-care diagnostics for liver and pancreatic cancer surgical planning and interventions”
HoloSurge aims to deploy an innovative AI-based medical system that: i) enables automatic fusion and segmentation of various imaging modalities for interactive 3D holographic visualization of patients’ organs intraoperatively; ii) provides real-time surgical navigation through a hologram superimposed onto the patient while in the OR on the operating table. The Intervention Centre is responsible for the workpackage providing real-time anatomical model-to-patient registration and intraoperative navigation and the R&D work needed to develop novel algorithms based on AI and SLAM or other technologies.
We are looking for excellent candidates to fill our one to two researcher/postdoc positions (two-three years positions) for technology R&D supporting image-guided laparoscopic liver and pancreas procedures with deep knowledge in AI and navigation technology.
The Intervention Centre is a unique cross-disciplinary organised hospital research and development department. The department has pioneered many image-guided therapy techniques and is developing novel technologies for patient monitoring and computer-aided surgery. The clinical research department has seven experimental operation rooms, all equipped for cutting edge image-guided therapies. The Intervention Centre has a cross-disciplinary staff of 45 employees where more than 50% of the staff has a technological including 4 professors and 3 associate professor employed at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and natural sciences of University of Oslo (UiO) and the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication of the Norwegian University of Technology (NTNU).
The research work at the centre has mainly been focused on the following three areas; MR, X-ray, ultrasound, video-guided interventions and surgery; Robotics and simulators; Biosensors, data processing, and wireless body area networks. The research covers image processing, visualization, and navigation developing technological solutions, that support minimally invasive procedures. Both technologically and clinically, The Intervention Centre has focused strongly on AI and has installed a dedicated GPU server for training of Deep Learning algorithms. In addition to several projects funded by the Research Council of Norway and the Nordic Innovation Centre, IVS has established a broad international network, both academic and industrial through participation and coordination of EU-funded projects such as the EU-ITN projects HiPerNav and WIBEC and participation in the PIC-project and 5G-Heart.
