SUMMARY

The Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) is a NASA Human Research Program (HRP) funded applied space health research organization that funds disruptive, high-impact scientific studies and technology development in support of astronaut health and performance (https://www.bcm.edu/spacehealth). This requires the development and maintenance of a sustainable research and development portfolio that meets the present and future strategic needs of HRP. To ensure that a credible and trained workforce is capable of leading future strategic science planning, TRISH is tasked by HRP to train the next generation.
Currently, there are few programs that exist to train science strategists. TRISH is establishing an opportunity that provides the practical training necessary to support scientists seeking the challenge of leading a science program. Through interacting with TRISH and HRP leadership Strategy and Management Postdoc applicant will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of how to approach strategic scientific planning for projects and programs while interacting with the scientific and engineering community.
In this position TRISH is looking for a PhD trained scientist that is interested in expanding their capabilities and developing a broader perspective required to lead a diverse program and guide scientific research designed to achieve both short term and long-term objectives. This individual can be at any career level. The selected associate will work with the TRISH Science Office under the TRISH Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Jennifer Fogarty. TRISH expects this experience to empower the associate to be more prepared to enter the science management workforce to enable innovative future space science research.
The Science Strategy and Management Postdoc will work with TRISH team members and build collaborative relationships with other professionals in the space field to support and drive research forward that makes life better in space and on the ground. TRISH is housed within the Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Space Medicine (CSM); which will give the Science Strategy and Management Postdoc an opportunity to connect with others in the space medicine field as well as participating in other CSM activities.
