Description:

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Mechanical Engineering (MechE), to specialize in defining problems and research questions in water, food, and agriculture that the MIT research community may be well-positioned to tackle. Will work at the intersection of engineering, science, and technology to identify opportunities where cutting-edge research can address pressing needs to improve access to clean water and sufficient, safe food for people around the world, especially in vulnerable and underserved communities. This investigative work will involve technoeconomic analyses to motivate how the research must align with economic, cultural, and stakeholder-driven needs. Will work across two complementary programs at MIT-the Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Center and the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Security Lab (J-WAFS). Will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the GEAR Center and the J-WAFS research community to help define and initiate research activities (e.g. via targeted proposal solicitations) for addressing critical challenges to humanity’s need for water and food. The position also offers opportunities to collaborate with research teams that are affiliated with or funded by GEAR Center and J-WAFS.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, agricultural engineering, or a related field with a focus on water, food, or agriculture applications; experience conducting high-quality research and fieldwork with stakeholders; and the ability to analyze and interpret data that will be shared with the scientific community through publications, presentations, and reports.
